Why we all need a colonic!
We think that the typical Western diet is dreadful and many of us subject our gut to a barrage of processed and refined foods, pesticides and genetically modified products etc over our lifetime, which can over-tax the digestive system. Eventually we may take in more toxins than we can eliminate and the colon can become impacted with faeces, dead cellular tissue and accumulated mucous which could possibly provide a breeding ground for worms, fungus and parasites. The theory, albeit unproven by science, is that toxicity sets in and the resulting poisons can circulate the blood stream causing all sorts of problems from tiredness to extreme disease. Impacted materials may also impair the colon’s ability to work properly and constipation can result. Indeed, our testimonials support the theory that colonics can help gently remove these toxins enabling the main organs of elimination to work more efficiently, making you feel much better. We find that colonics and probiotics are a particularly good idea when travelling to foreign countries (see Q&A page).
Our Belief
Most of us are walking around in a state of toxic overload and it is The Hering Clinic’s belief that the majority of people in Britain who have been raised on a typical western diet would benefit from colon hydrotherapy.
The Hering Clinic Treatment Rooms
All our treatment rooms have an ensuite toilet, so once you have completed your treatment you are left to sit on the loo in peace. The rooms have recently been completely refurbished and have also been inspected by a member of ARCH to ensure that they conform to their very high standards. Once you have finished, feel free to sit in our comfortable waiting room and enjoy a cup of detoxing tea.
What the Treatment Involves
Once your appointment is booked, you will be sent a medical questionnaire which you should complete and bring with you on the day of your colonic. Your therapist will then go through the information with you prior to your treatment and explain the procedure (if it is your first one), you will also be given nutritional guidance. After changing (your modesty is completely preserved behind a fresh laundered blanket), it is then just a matter of leaving yourself in the therapist’s competent hands. All you have to do is lie on a comfortable massage bed and relax.
Filtered, warm water is gently washed in and out of the bowels to clean out waste – the whole process is totally hygienic and the waste travels through a small tube, disappearing through a pipe in the wall straight into the waste system (exactly the same as a toilet). We find that abdominal massage helps to stimulate the bowel and so move the waste along. Some people find the experience so soothing, that they have fallen asleep! You will probably still feel the need to go to the loo once the treatment has finished, usually just to eliminate excess water.
