Probiotics

Probiotics offer dietary means to support the balance of intestinal flora and they are often underestimated in their health benefits.  Marteau et al (2001) state that "friendly bacteria" are "non-pathogenic micro-organisms that, when ingested, exert a positive influence on the health of the host".    They may be used to stabilise the intestinal mucosal barrier function, prevent infection from pathogenic microorganisms and influence intestinal metabolism (Rolfe: 2000). Due to these actions, probiotics should be used during and after antibiotic use, during foreign travel, and to support your gastrointestinal health.
